If you’re looking for properties or vllas in Altea or looking to rent a property in Altea short or long term, we hope this local information for living in Altea helps.
Altea, situated just south of Calpe and about 15km north of the resort of Benidorm can be easily reached with the AP7 motorway. Altea is one of the most beautiful towns on the Costa Blanca and is also one of the few places to have retained its “fishing village” feel of times gone by.
The Town of Altea
One of the first things you will notice on viewing Altea from a distance is the dominant blue roof of the famous church Nuestra Senora del Consuelo (or Virgen de Consuelo) with its fantastic blue roof.
The older parts of Altea still maintain the village feeling but the town feels a little divided due to the N-332 passing directly through it. This road divides the town into two separating the acient parts from its harbour and beech front areas. It is here you will find the majority of the best restaurants and bars. The front is always full of people and the atmosphere is most appealing.
If you are using Altea as your base there are many notable smaller villages in the surrounding area especially La Nucia to the north with its Sunday market which is certainly worth a trip to.
Alteas Beaches
There are over 5 km of beaches along the Altea coastline divided into different sections. The beaches are not sandy as you would expect in the Costa Blanca and Alicante areas but they do offer some fantastic views and secluded areas in which you can relax. Starting from the north of Altea is Cap Negret followed by the La Roda and the Cap Blanc areas to the south and adjacent to the yacht harbour are the beaches of Pueblo Macarat.
Altea and the surrounding hills
Not far from Altea you will find the Sierra de Bernia, a mountain region which reaches upto 1130 metres high. From places all-around this area you will have superb views over the Altea area coastline. There has been, like everywhere else, a huge construction boom all around Altea over the past years not so much along the coastline but more in the surrounding hills. In there defence the construction companies and real estate firms that have been developing the areas around Altea have managed to produce some of the most exclusive developments, properties and hotels on the coast.
Altea and its surrounding areas are a must when visiting the Costa Blanca in winter as well as in summer.
